The New Book and How It Will Come Together - from Claire Krulikowski
August 25, 2021
Hello Readers!
I hope you have been able to enjoy these summer months and creating good times despite localized issues of storms, smoke, fires, etc. You can make it through and thrive!
I have recently completed the second edit of my new manuscript, The Allegiance of Jesus: Why is Peace Misunderstood. At this point, authors are often at the tipping point of not being able to see the forest through the trees, because we are way too close to the subject matter after having written and read and reread portions of the manuscript multiple times. So, now I've been sending off copies of the manuscript to a few beta readers. What is a Beta Reader? Well, per Wikipedia (and other sources I've studied, as well):
"A beta reader is usually a test reader of an unreleased work of literature or other writing (similar to beta testing in software), who gives feedback from the point of view of an average reader to the author. A beta reader is not a professional and can therefore provide advice and comments in the opinions of an average reader. This feedback is used by the writer to fix remaining issueds...and consistency. The beta reader also serves as a sounding board to see if the book has had the intended emotional impact."
So, these folks are not professional editors though if they spot some obvious issues with spelling, grammar, punctuation they can comment on those for my correction -- Which means, hopefullyl, you won't have to! :-)
What happens after I receive their feedback? I review it all, decide what I consider valid for the book (or simply decide I opt to not change for, possibly artistic or other reasons), re-edit/correct the manuscript and then, finally, send off to the final proofreader to ensure that there weren't further errors made during the shifting around of that final edit.
Then, I still need to send it to my cover designer along with my personal concepts about the cover design, which the copy will help provide to her, and so that she knows the page count to set up the cover, spine, and backcover artwork accurately. We probably have cover conversations via online over all this.
So, folks, just leting you know that another book, The Allegiance of Jesus: Why is Peace Misunderstood? will be out in the Autumn. And...I am so honored for the birthing of this one. Look for it, please!
